Boilermakers Local 5 is involved in many facets of the energy industry within New York State.  Boilermakers perform power industry skills like high pressure welding and heavy rigging in the erection and repair of boilers, pressure vessels, tanks, and air pollution equipment. 

Boilermakers work in natural gas, water treatment, hydroelectric, hydrogen, and nuclear power plants throughout the Empire State.  Our skills are applied in numerous welding processes with both carbon and alloy steels in addition to grinding, burning, and gouging.  Our rigging skills are safely par excellence. Boilermakers conduct plant outages safely and efficiently for the owner and developer.

In addition, we administer bulk power markets that trade an average of $7.8 billion in electricity and related products annually.

The New York State Energy Research and Development Authority, known as NYSERDA, promotes energy efficiency and the use of renewable energy sources. Plug Power
