SAMPLE RESIDENTIAL ELECTRIC BILLS
While there are a lot of figures on the charts below, each illustrates how prices have changed since 2012. While electric bills have increased, the total price of electricity supply for both Con Edison and National Grid residential bills has remained roughly only 30% of the total bill cost. The other 70% is made up of T&D and State fees.

*The Electric Supply Reconciliation Mechanism (ESRM) charge is the difference between the price that National Grid paid for hedging and the actual market cost of electricity. The unusually high ESRM indicates that National Grid overpaid for electricity and is recovering its costs from customers. The charge is broken out from the other electric generation charges to provide fairer reflection of the actual cost of wholesale electricity.
- Electric generation subtotal now accounts for ~32% of an average electric bill
- Tranmission and distribution subtotal now accounts for ~48% of an average electric bill
