IPPNY: NYSERDA Tier 4 Bids are Opportunity for In-State Investment
Albany, NY – Today marks the deadline for developers submitting bids for transmission proposals under the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority’s Tier 4 program to deliver renewable energy into New York City.
IPPNY President and CEO Gavin J. Donohue said, “Private sector investment in New York’s energy infrastructure is what will drive our economic recovery in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic and beyond. As always, this is about New York jobs, New York taxes, and helping New York communities. Finding solutions that will expand our renewable energy portfolio and guarantee emissions reductions – while building our green economy and creating good jobs – should be the focus.
“However, for some unknown reason there is an irrational fascination with importing Canadian power over the Champlain Hudson Power Express line. The fight against global climate change is time-sensitive – there is not a moment to waste on shell games and greenwashing. Spending more than $3 billion to support the profiteering of a Canadian company on a project that will not actually reduce region-wide emissions and will not grow our economy makes no sense. New York’s generators have stepped up to the plate before and they are ready to once again.”
