Albany, N.Y., 12/7/09 - The Independent Power Producers of New York, Inc. (IPPNY) has long favored a properly structured national greenhouse gas emission control program, as the most appropriate and effective means to address greenhouse gas emissions in this country. Federal action will ensure that states, such as New York, are not placed at a competitive disadvantage, when compared to states and regions that historically impose less stringent environmental standards on their industries.
In light of reports released today by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency related to greenhouse gases, public health and the environment, IPPNY supports the federal administration's call to regulate these emissions at the national level. IPPNY continues to stress that the optimal approach to effective greenhouse gas policy implementation is for it to be managed at the federal level, as opposed to the state / regional level, to create consistency and fair competition.
